Obituary for Harold Flanagan

Harold Flanagan
Harold D. Flanagan, 91, died peacefully on November 23, 2017 in his home in Lake Worth, FL with family by his side. He was the beloved husband for nearly 70 years of Selrma R. (Friedman) Flanagan and the devoted father of Barbara E. Flanagan (Robert Peat) of Danbury, CT and Richard M. Flanagan of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by his grandson, Gregory S. Flanagan; and several cousins in the Newburgh area. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Paige Daniele Flanagan.

Harold was born in Newburgh, NY on February 28, 1926 the son of the late Gertrude (Greenwald) Flanagan and James M. Flanagan. He graduated from Newburgh Free Academy and proudly served his country in Europe during World War II as a tank commander in the 3rd Army. In November 2014 he was a participant in the Honor Flight program which brings veterans to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Harold resided in Poughkeepsie, NY for 50 years. He was employed by IBM for 37 years. During his employment with IBM Harold held various management positions, traveling extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and North America. Always staying involved, Harold served as a volunteer fireman and was also on the Tactical Squad of the Dutchess County Sheriffs Department.

Harold and his wife retired to Lake Worth, FL where Harold was employed by Palm Beach County as and adult safety driving instructor. Harold was a lifetime member of the American Legion, a 50 year member of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York, and a member of Temple B'nai Jacob of Wellington.
